The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra would have a 200 megapixel photo sensor

Samsung should go up a notch with its Galaxy S23 Ultra by offering a 200 megapixel photo sensor. That’s almost double what the Galaxy S22 Ultra offers.

With the Galaxy S22 Ultra, users are entitled to a 108 megapixel photo sensor. Photos taken by default are 12 megapixels because those with 108 megapixels are significantly heavier. But those who want to can take full advantage of the sensor at the touch of a button. With the Galaxy S23 Ultra, Samsung would therefore go even further and offer a 200 megapixel photo sensor.

According to ETNews, the new sensor (ISOCELL HP3) will be produced by Samsung Electronics and Samsung Electro-Mechanics, with a larger share (70%) for the former. Samsung would have already finished the development and is currently preparing the production.

Like the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is said to use pixel binning, which merges data from multiple small pixels on the image sensor into one “super pixel”. Pixel clustering is advantageous because simply increasing the megapixel count of a smartphone’s photo sensor while maintaining the same image sensor size results in smaller pixels, which typically pick up less light. .

Samsung is expected to announce its various Galaxy S23s in early 2023. There is no specific date yet.
