The Rocketeer returns on Disney+
Fans have been waiting for a sequel to the film for years. Good news, Disney+ is working on a movie The Rocketeer.
It took a while. Fans of Joe Johnston’s 1991 Disney film The Rocketeer have been waiting for this news for 30 years. Namely a new, live-action Rocketeer movie. And it’s now official: the movie is in the works. It’s called The Return of the Rocketeer and it’s being developed for Disney+.
The Rocketeer on Disney+
According to the website Deadline, David Oyelowo (Star Wars Rebels) is one of the producers and could be starring in the project, which will have “an all-new creative directive targeting a retired Tuskegee flier.” Ed Ricourt (Now You See Me, Wayward Pines) wrote the screenplay which is produced under the Yoruba Saxon banner. This is a business run by David and Jessica Oyelowo. It signed a first-look deal with Disney earlier this summer after David Oyelowo’s directorial debut, The Water Man, came out. Apparently they were satisfied with this and can now get started with a new film.
Original
The Rocketeer was played in the first film by Bill Campbell as a stunt pilot named Cliff. He came across an experimental jetpack in the late 1930s. A jetpack that a group of Nazis is also after, because they think it will help them take over the world. As usual.
And so the film became an exciting somewhat predictable, historical superhero film in which Cliff eventually defeats the Nazis. He starred alongside Jennifer Connelly, Alan Arkin, Timothy Dalton and Paul Sorvino, and is now on Disney+. At the time, the film did not bring the expected success, maybe it will now. Because, the film has since had a very passionate legion of fans who have been waiting for a sequel for many years.
