The racing game with the hottest crashes costs just € 8 in the PlayStation Store
An arcade racing game with brilliant orgies of destruction, full speed frenzy and crazy stunts costs just 8 euros for PlayStation 4/5. If you have an Xbox, you can get away even cheaper. A gaming tip for the weekend.
Watch out, your young vegetables, now comes an earlier-everything-better speech: rubber band effect, high-gloss cars that are not allowed to get scratched for licensing reasons, thunderstorms with no depth – most arcade racers today are pretty boring. I often think of the flatouts, burnouts, destruction derbies and Carmageddons of the past decades with a warm feeling in my stomach Mud splashed, themselves Sheet metal bent, Sparks flew and cars sometimes folded up in such a way during crashes that they exclaimed: Yes, reign, now I won’t win the race anymore, but it was still worth it for the noise alone!
In addition to the equally brilliant Wreckfest, the best way to experience such an old-school racing game on an up-to-date console is probably the good, old one Burnout Paradise. In the Remastered version from 2018 The game costs just 7.99 euros in the PS Store, and only 4.99 euros for the Xbox, which makes it one for me thick, fat recommendation value.
About the eponymous island of Paradise City, you can lumber here with various possible and impossible cars and motorcycles. In the Open world there are races to start on every street corner, billboards to be destroyed, shortcuts to be discovered, hundreds of meters wide jumps to graduate to win new cars. The already brisk carts and motorcycles can be driven by Turbo button be pushed again, so that the rush of speed is quite able to pump a few messenger substances into the brain.
But the best thing about Burnout Paradise is … failing. Because when the almost Camaro plows through a tunnel with 250 things, can only dodge oncoming traffic for a millimeter and get on top of it wraps around a bridge pillar with pleasure, the game stages this total write-off in a way that no other racing game I know does: Slow motion, cracking and grinding noises, glass that “splatters” everywhereTo quote Helge Schneider, and tires jumping in all directions make the mishap almost physically comprehensible – simply divine.
Online multiplayer goes with up to 8 people. The game also has a soundtrack. This is what people who like Guns’n’Roses like. I’m not one of them, but you can also turn it off.
The original game from 2008 was remastered in 2018 carefully restored. No, graphically the game no longer pulls up trees. At least it runs smoothly on all current consoles. Next 4K display on PS4 Pro, PS5, Xbox One X and Series X “BurP” runs in silky soft 60 FPS on all platforms, even the Nintendo Switch. The textures and color grading were adjusted so that the game is still at least good-looking today. The big Big Surf Island add-on is also included and expands the island again by a large area that offers many nice jumping opportunities.
In case I haven’t found out yet that I recommend this game: Get it, really, at least if you like this genre and haven’t already had the game. The 8 euros are well spent.
