The police invite themselves on TikTok: frying on the line?

A lively rhythm, bass and a succession of super cute images: it is with this clip that the Paris Police Prefecture made its debut on Tik Tok two days ago. The codes are respected, at least those of the platform. Because with this account, the PP creates a dissonance with the new rules of the public service.

TikTok banned for state agents

Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for the Digital Transition, had announced the banning of TikTok and other recreational applications on all the professional telephones of State agents. A decision made following other European governments and the European Parliament itself.

At the origin of this choice follows a general mobilization launched by several Western countries, in particular the United States, following various scandals of leaks of data and confidential information via social networks. If TikTok is the first target, Instagram, Twitter and Telegram are also in the sights.

Exceptions are provided

So, by launching its TikTok account, is the Paris Police Prefecture outside the nails? In terms of image, no doubt. This gives, in fact, a feeling of inconsistency between the stated desire to distance itself from TikTok and its actual implementation.

‘There was no reason for the national police and gendarmerie, but also the Paris fire brigade to be there and not us.’

PPP Spokesperson

But in fact, the presence of an institution on TikTok follows a logic of public communication and awareness. A scenario provided for by the Ministry of Digital Transition, which, in its press release, introduces specific scenarios that may open to an exemption.
