The notch does not disappear at all with the iPhone 14

There are strong suspicions that the notch, the camera notch, will not go away at all. Read here why.

We’ve been talking about it forever: When is Apple going to ditch the notch on their smartphones? A lot of people think it’s horribly ugly. In addition, there are already smarter and nicer solutions for this. This week we read on the website The Elec that Apple would really remove the notch from the iPhone 14, but why would they?

iPhone 14 notch

The notch would disappear and instead Apple will come with a hole punch camera. Not new, because many Android phones already have this. Still, there are many rumors that the notch is not going to disappear at all. This is due to the simple fact that everyone recognizes an iPhone immediately. Let’s face it, today’s smartphones all look the same. And it is precisely that notch that makes an Apple smartphone so recognizable. Especially because everyone nowadays uses a case, but still sees the notch.

The notch, corny as it is, is part of Apple’s modern design language. It’s about the same reason Apple stuck to solid bezels for so long before the iPhone X debuted; having a clear visual identifier helped Apple maintain the iPhone’s exclusive “luxury” smartphone status.

Design

They like to keep that well-known luxurious look. So it’s a design statement, but also a practical solution that allows the camera to perform better and Face ID to work. Cameras can already be placed under the screen, creating a much sleeker look. But the image quality then decreases.

Apple, of course, employs many designers. The notch may become smaller, but still recognizable. Think of a pill-shaped recess. That still stands out and people immediately see that it is an iPhone. And that, that’s Apple’s goal.
