The new photo function can do that

WhatsApp introduces a new feature that Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg had already announced. Beta testers already know it, but now the single view for photos is also open to all other users – but it has a weak point.

WhatsApp has had to put up with a lot of criticism in the last few months – especially with regard to changes relating to the data usage of the messenger. So it’s no wonder that people are now working hard on themselves. With the Single view of shared photos and other media content one of the results of the effort is now ready.

WhatsApp starts single view: Photos sent cannot be saved

With the “single view” function, WhatsApp users can send photos, GIFs and videos that are do not save on the recipient’s device let (source: Whatsapp). So he or she can only look at the file once, then it will be deleted from the chat history. The files do not appear in the photo gallery of the other smartphone either.

You can activate the function using a new button: If you want to send a photo or other files via WhatsApp, the number “1” appears in your text field on the right-hand edge, surrounded by a dotted border. With a click on it you activate the one-time view of what you reset each time have to. The new function is available in WhatsApp on Android and iOS. And this is what it looks like:

WhatsApp, however, indicates that it it is possible to bypass the one-time view. For example, you cannot prevent WhatsApp users from taking a screenshot when they receive a single view of a picture. The photo can also be photographed with another smartphone, for example.

There is also a condition under which WhatsApp itself saves one-time files: If the recipient reports a photo, for example because it violates WhatsApp’s guidelines or laws, WhatsApp has to check this and thus saves the file.

One-time view has a practical side effect

Despite the limitations, the one-time view is a welcome function, which gives you more power over your own files. Practical side effect: If you use the one-time view, you save a little bit of internal memory on the smartphone for the person you’re talking to.
