The new MacBook Air is here with a larger screen and super-fast chip

Apple has presented the MacBook Air and the device comes with a larger screen and M2 chip.

We already knew that the MacBook Air doesn’t come in many colors, but Apple just revealed more. It has been almost four years since the company came up with an update. In late 2020, the laptop got a major performance upgrade as one of the first computers to ship with Apple’s M1 silicon, but lately the device is starting to feel the time.

New MacBook Air

So time for a new one. As everyone thought, Apple is renewing the MacBook Air today with the announced M2 chip and a larger 13.6-inch screen. It also includes MagSafe for the first time in years, much like the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro that Apple released last fall.

The M2 chip comes with an 8-core CPU, up to a 10-core GPU, and up to 24 GB of RAM. Presumably the base model gets less. The design is also different. The device now has a small notch. We know that again from the MacBook Pro and that design is therefore followed. That’s nice, because the notch houses a 1080p webcam that Apple claims has twice the resolution and twice the low-light performance. The Air is quite thin and weighs 2.7 pounds. That is slightly more than the old version. It also has two Thunderbolt ports and a headphone jack.

Design

The keyboard looks different and also resembles that of the new Pro. This with a row of full-sized function keys. The entire device is more reminiscent of the MacBook Pro, which will be a plus for many people. It has a slightly more square housing and therefore no longer has the characteristic wedge-shaped design.

Prices, like everything in life right now, have gone up. In America, prices start at $1,199.00. That’s $200 more. Prices for Europe are not yet known, but they will follow this increase in proportion.
