The list of SSDs that their manufacturers say will work on the PlayStation 5 is growing. The respected magazine Digital Foundry was the first to come up with its own unofficial list. And then specific companies started reporting. The first was Seagate, which recommended its model to players FireCuda 530 NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen 4 SSDwhich they tested directly with Sony. Another was Western Digital, which relies on a model WD_BLACK SN850 NVMe SSD. She is currently testing it with the PS5. By the way, it is also recommended by the PlayStation architect Mark Cerny himself, who chose it for himself, as we have just learned.

It didn’t take long for another manufacturer to know about himself. Support for PS5 officially confirmed Aorus, respektive Gigabyte. Gigabyte Aorus NVMe PCIe 4.0 should be another safe choice, as confirmed by Digital Foundry magazine.
In general, Sony recommends the PCIe Gen 4.0 M.2 NVMe SSD with a read speed of 5500MB / s and higher. Such began to be produced only last autumn. Their capacity can be from 250 GB to 4 TB. You need the version with heatsink, or add it. You must also pay attention to the prescribed dimensions – 110x25x11.25 millimeters, including heatsink.
Digital Foundry Magazine and others are gradually expanding their lists of supported and recommended SSDs. They verify this information with the manufacturers and are preparing for specific tests. In addition to the mentioned FireCuda 530, Black SN850 and Aorus NVMe Gen 4 models, the following pieces also currently appear among the compatible discs:

Some models have a version with a heatsink, others need to supplement it, or replace the heatsink with a shorter type. In addition to a suitable SSD, you must also have a beta of new firmware in order to try storage expansion now. It is already available in some regions. After testing it, SSD support will be released into the official public version of the system software.
However, experts still warn that players wait, if possible, for the first specific tests, which will test the real capabilities of individual disks and their speed compared to the default storage. If you are not in a hurry, you can save something over time. Although, paradoxically, in the short term, a temporary increase in prices can be expected due to increased demand.
