Electric cars are the future. But which brand will win the race? Google searches for electric cars give an impression of the interest of electric car fans and potential customers. Germany’s number 1 carmaker has to accept a clear defeat.

E-cars: These brands are winning the race on Google

Which manufacturer makes it to the top with its electric cars? In the long term, only time will tell – and yet a look at the Google searches on the subject offers an exciting insight. It shows that it is not the German top dog Volkswagen that many people in Germany are interested in in connection with electric cars. Instead, another manufacturer tops the top 10 that Google provided us with:

On Google, most people in Germany did not search for VW or Tesla in connection with the topic of electric cars, but for Opel. This should go down well with the Stellantis group. You can clearly see the interest of the customers. Opel has among the German car manufacturers the most ambitious goals for an early switch to electric cars. Combustion engines should no longer be available in Europe by 2028.

VW hardly represented: electric cars from Wolfsburg not in demand?

What is a good sign for the Opel brand – as well as for some of the other top spots – is also a good sign bitter defeat for Germany’s largest car manufacturer Volkswagen. The house brand does not appear in the top 10. With Seat and Porsche, two brands of the VW Group can place themselves, but not the figurehead. After all, the Golf is the only model to make it into the top 10 search queries – a small victory.

E-cars do not have to convince Google, but above all with the price:

This is not only a disappointing result for VW as a brand, but also for the Wolfsburg-based electric cars. Because instead of placing the ID electric series far ahead, the gulf appears there. It is quite possible that there will soon be a modern electric car. Brand boss Thomas Schäfer had already made it clear that the name Golf was not simply to be given up. But the manager also confirmed that the ID series was well known. The Google queries cannot quite reflect that.
