The Forgotten Phone: Sony Ericsson Jalou

Until a few years ago, gems of telephones were released for women. With soft pink effects, in beautiful feminine colors or with special accessories. An example of this is the Sony Ericsson Jalou. We discuss the device in this edition of ‘The forgotten phone’.

In 2009 Sony Ericsson released a fashion-conscious phone; the Sony Ericsson Jalou. The brand provided the device with a stylish design with playful lines and effects. The design looked more like a gemstone with a glossy finish. The Jalou was a clamshell device and could therefore be folded open. On the cover was a (hidden) second screen that could light up when, for example, an incoming call. However, due to the effects, the cover could also be used as a mirror; ideal for checking whether the make-up is still in place. Also inside there was the glossy finish with a fashionable look. Characteristic were also the numerical keys that resembled diamonds.

Colors

With a length of only 73 millimeters (closed), the device was no longer than your favorite lipstick, that was the promise of the manufacturer. Sony Ericsson released the SE Jalou F100 in different colors. This one was available in Aquamarine Blue, Deep Amathyst and Onyx Black. The most special was the pink colored Dolce & Gabbana. This model featured 24 carat gold and was delivered in a satin pouch to protect the device. The supplied headset also had gold accents, so that it was completely in the style of the luxurious Jalou. Furthermore, on this version you found special Dolce & Gabbana content such as photos, videos, themes and you could follow the D&G blog via the RSS feed.

On board the Sony Ericsson Jalou was a 2.0 inch screen with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. On the outside there was a 1.3 inch monochrome display. The Jalou weighed only 84 grams, a weight that you no longer encounter with smartphones. The device was also equipped with Bluetooth, an FM radio and 100MB of RAM. The camera of the Sony Ericsson counted 3.2 megapixels and let you film in 320p. TrackID, old Shazam so to speak, was a popular tool from Sony Ericsson and it was also present on the Jalou.

The price of the Sony Ericsson Jalou was around 150 euros. Unfortunately I have not been able to find out the price of the Dolce & Gabbana edition. We were able to pull this beautiful official page from the archive.
