The already infamous OMG Cable is made by MG. The security researcher talked to Vice about his invention.
The cable looks like an average iPhone cable (Lighting to USB-C), but a small chip is hidden in the white end. This is able to create a WiFi hotspot.
As soon as the victim inserts the spying cable into her or his laptop, the cable makes contact with the hacker’s WiFi connection. The attacker can then monitor what the victim types. The hacker can monitor all keystrokes.

Victim has no idea
The sad thing is that the victim doesn’t notice. In fact, the hacker can remotely control the victim’s laptop, for example when the person is not behind the keyboard for a while.
According to MG, the signal from the OMG Cable reaches up to one and a half kilometers. Should the victim’s laptop fall outside this range, the cable can ‘destruct’ itself by causing the connection to drop.
The cable works not only on Macs and Windows computers, but also iPhones and iPads. MG tells Motherboard that he/she made the cables to prove that USB-C cables are not as safe as claimed. The OMG cable is available from Hak5. This company specializes in spy gadgets.
Do not panic
Based on images, the OMG Cable looks like a ‘normal’ iPhone cable. It is therefore probably very difficult to distinguish the two from each other. To avoid being eavesdropped on, it is important that you use your own cable to charge your iPhone.
In addition, the chance that a hacker is after you is probably manageable. Such spy gadgets are mainly used by governments and secret services.
