The forgotten phone: Siemens C25 from 1999

Can you still get this phone when you hear the name ‘Siemens C25’? The device appeared in the year 1999 and this Sunday we discuss the device in our weekly column ‘The forgotten telephone’.

Siemens C25

We go back quite a few years in time in this edition of our Forgotten section. A few years ago, Siemens was a popular mobile phone brand. There is nothing left of that now. In those years, Siemens released several popular devices, and we saw that reflected, for example, in the form of the Siemens C25, a neat device without unnecessary fuss. Without fuss anyway, because around the year 2000 a mobile phone was still used for calling and texting. This is also witnessed by the design of the C25. At the top left, a thick antenna protruded from the Siemens housing.

The Siemens C25 was thick, although most devices around that time were. The thickness came out at 27 millimeters. The length and width of the device was 117 x 47 millimeters, with a weight of approximately 140 grams. With that size, it was the smallest phone at the time. The screen was a simple alphanumeric screen with three rows, each of which could display twelve characters. When you received a call, a monotone ringtone sounded. In terms of possibilities, the phone did not immediately have much to offer. You could call and text with it, and icing on the cake; you could compose your own ringtone.

Siemens provided the phone with a 650 mAh battery. The price of the device was between 150 and 200 guilders.
