The first Google Pixel 7 rumors are a fact

It is of course still very early, because we are still getting used to the Pixel 6, but the first rumors about Google Pixel 7 are already doing the rounds. Google debuted its first proprietary Tensor chip last year, and its upcoming Pixel flagship is said to feature a second generation.

Tensor 2.0 chip

In addition to that Tensor 2.0 chip, as we now call it, the new Google Pixel would also get a new modem from Samsung. Nice code names have also been devised for the two devices: cheetah and panther.

Google Pixel 6 has done well: it also frequently emerged as a fantastic device in our annual lists for 2021. It is the showpiece of Android 12, although not everything goes smoothly with it. Google Pixel 7 will probably be provided with another major Android update, although nothing is certain of course.

New Samsung modem

9to5Google now comes with one of the ‘debut gossips’ about Pixel 7. For example, Tensor chip 2.0 is internally called ‘cloudripper’ and is known under model number GS201. That chip would also be equipped with a completely new modem from Samsung. And those two code names are interesting too: normally Pixel phones always had fish names as code names, but with Pixel 6 we went sky high with “oriole” and “raven”.

Now we seem to be going more into the African savannah. While panthers and cheetahs are panthers that sleep most of the day, they can be super fast when needed: hopefully the new Pixel 7 will be one of those speed demons too. First comes Pixel 6a, by the way, before we can even dream about a seventh official Pixel: it listens to the codename ‘bluejay’, so Google will stick to the sky-related names for a while. The same goes for the Pixel Notepad: Google’s first foldable device would be called ‘pipit’.

Cheetah and panther

The first Tensor chip had the Samsung Exynos Modem 5123, so apparently Google is happy with that amalgamation. Tensor 2.0 is expected to contain Exynos Modem 5300, but Samsung has not yet officially announced this modem with this name.
