No time right now?

The promotion of private wall boxes by KfW has been running largely unchecked since November 2020, with around 2,500 applications daily. Now the federal government is providing another 100 million euros.

Funding applications have already been submitted for more than 300,000 wallboxes Notify the Federal Ministry of Transport. This corresponds to a funding volume of 270 million euros. Because demand remains at a high level, the federal government is now making another 100 million euros available. This means that a further 111,000 wallboxes can be funded. As before, the KfW development bank (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau) accepts applications for funding for the construction of private charging stations.

Federal Minister of Transport is happy about the “perfect funding”

Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) is delighted with the “enormous demand”, which shows that his ministry is “spot on” with the funding program. In fact, the wallbox funding can be described as a success story.

On the first day of acceptance, 16,000 applications had already been submitted. In the first week KfW was literally flooded with 85,000 applications. This had led to a temporary overload of the application acceptance via the so-called grant portal of the KfW.

The idea behind the grant is that the majority of future charging will take place on private property. Accordingly, with the 900 euro program, the state is promoting the acquisition and construction of a new, non-publicly accessible charging station, including the electrical connection.

This must be taken into account with wallbox funding

Funding, however, is not without hooks and eyes. It is very important that the funding must be applied for before the start of the project. Anyone who has already bought their wallbox but not yet installed it looks into the tube.

In addition, the private charging station must be operated with green electricity or electricity from your own photovoltaic system. Last but not least, it may only have a maximum charging power of eleven kilowatts and it must be “intelligently controlled”. The charging power limitation can also be adhered to by means of technical throttling.
