The Facebook group would like to rename itself next week
When I ask you this, which company comes first on your mind? Name an IT company that is mainly struggling with scandals and other problems. For many, the answer is likely to be: Facebook. Because the group just can’t get out of the negative headlines.
Therefore, it was on the one hand a big clap of thunder, on the other hand more or less not really surprising when many media speculated about a possible name change. The group is planning to commit to a new name for the parent company in the next week.
The official reason is probably the new direction of the group, they want to build a virtual utopia in which one can meet friends using AR and VR and spend a second life: the metaverse. The company is also relying on the European location, a few days ago over 10,000 new jobs were promised.
Of course, it is not unreasonable that some people also think that Facebook wants to wash their own vest back in this way. After all, hardly anyone now associates anything positive with the brand and its social networks. It remains to be seen whether that will work, after all, after all, you define yourself by your actions and not your name.
It reflects the broadening out of the Facebook business. And then, secondly, I do think that Facebook’s brand is probably not the greatest given all of the events of the last three years or so. James Cordwell
For this reason, we can look forward to the announcement by CEO Mark Zuckerberg that the company’s annual Connect conference will take place in a week’s time. The Verge magazine even assumes that the new name will be announced earlier. Either way, there are some big changes coming up on Facebook.
Own opinion:
Whether the group is called Facebook, Virtualbook or Augmentedbook, a new name will not necessarily lead the group out of the current crisis. A change in management would be necessary for this, after all, in my opinion, many mistakes have been made here in recent years. After all, a wolf in sheep’s clothing is still a wolf.
