The dream is over, Apple remains stingy
With the current iPhone 13 Pro (Max), Apple introduced a fast display with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. After that, hopes arose that Apple would give the feature to the standard model of the iPhone 14. Unfortunately, probably not, the dream is over.
The ProMotion display of the iPhone 13 Pro (Max) is a fine thing. Depending on the screen content, the frequency is adjusted between 10 and 120 Hz. Ensures fast images on the one hand and less power consumption on the other if a low refresh rate is sufficient. analyst Jeff Pu recently strengthened the hope that Apple would extend the feature to the upcoming standard model of the iPhone 14. But does it really happen?
iPhone 14: 120Hz display only for Pro models
Insider and display expert Ross Young sees it differently, he is now taking away our hope. According to him, the separation will remain this year. Ergo: If you want a ProMotion display, you have to use the iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max. The two standard models, on the other hand, have to do without (source: Ross Young via Twitter). Young also provides the reason for Apple’s ongoing stinginess.
There are already corresponding differences with the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro:
The manufacturer will also obtain the required LTPO panels 2022 from BOE, but they do not yet have sufficient capacity and generally have to prove that they can do it at all. According to Young, extending the ProMotion feature to the standard models would simply be too risky. However, he is hoping for the year 2023. Ergo: With a bit of luck, the normal iPhone 15 could then get the fast display, but it’s already too late for the iPhone 14. This means that ProMotion will remain a feature in 2022 that is only available in Apple’s professional and therefore expensive models – iPhone Pro, iPad Pro and MacBook Pro.
We still have to wait until autumn for the iPhone 14, but soon we could see these products:
The future of Apple’s notch
speaking of The front of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will again differ more from the two standard models. According to current reports, Apple wants to use two camera holes instead of the well-known notch – a circular one and a pill-shaped one. This would make a little more display area available, but the screen would not be completely flawless. The normal iPhone 14, on the other hand, still has the notch.
