Volkswagen continues to teaser the VW ID 5, the pre-series production of which started in Zwickau in February 2021. The market launch is now planned for 2022.

The VW ID 5 is the coupé variant of the ID 4 and is already the third member of the fully electric ID family. Volkswagen continues to hold back on details. You can find out that the ID 5 will have a range of up to 540 and the GTX version of the ID 5 will have a range of up to 497 kilometers according to WLTP. The GTX’s slightly shorter range is due to its all-wheel drive.

Longer and flatter than an ID 4, otherwise very similar

Otherwise, the use of the manufacturer’s modular electric drive kit (MEB) already suggests some technical data. This is how the VW ID 5 take over the electric motor of the ID 4 with 150 kilowatts as well as the battery with its energy content of 77 kilowatt hours. In addition to the 150-kilowatt variant, there will be a rear-wheel drive with 128 kilowatts of power. The GTX version comes up with 220 kilowatts.

The top speed should remain at 180 kilometers per hour. The sprint from 0 to 100 would be done in 6.2 seconds. The coupé shape is likely to be responsible for the fact that the range is slightly higher than that of the ID 4. Likewise, the coupé shape will probably lead to the ID 5 being a little longer than the ID 4, i.e. more than 4.6 meters long.

No surprises in the interior

The first test drivers report that they could hardly find any differences in the interior of the ID 5 to that of the ID 4. The identical 12-inch touchscreen is also found in the ID 5, supported by the 5.3-inch virtual and AR-capable head-up display.
