the chameleons among smartphones

The Chinese Vivo has announced chameleon-like new mid-range smartphones with the Vivo V23 and V23 Pro. Both devices mainly focus on photography and design. The devices include ‘Fluorite AG technology’, but what exactly is this?

Vivo V23 loves sunbathing

Vivo reports that it has been working on a technique for years to make the back of a smartphone change color. The company does this with the so-called ‘Fluorite AG technology’. A technique that causes the back of the phone to change in direct sunlight. Vivo demonstrates this technique for the first time in the Sunshine Gold model from the Vivo23 series.

If you expose the gold-colored Vivo23 (Pro) to sunlight, it will turn blue-green after about thirty seconds. After a while, however, the phone will return to its original gold color.

Specifications

The Vivo V23 Pro features a Full-HD+ 6.56” AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of 90Hz. The device has a 4300 mAh battery and is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chip. A fairly smooth octacore processor that can also be found in the OnePlus Nord 2. On the back of the device we find a three-piece camera setup, consisting of a 108MP main camera, a 2MP macro camera and an 8MP wide-angle lens.

The ‘normal’ V23 has a Full HD + 6.44 inch AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. This handset is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 920 chipset. A processor that is a lot less powerful than the MediaTek Dinmensity 1200 chip from the V23 Pro. The V23 also has a three-piece camera setup. This device consists of a 64 MP main camera, a 2 MP macro camera and an 8 MP wide-angle lens. Finally, the device has a 4200 mAh battery. In terms of design, this device is somewhat similar to the iPhone 12 and 13 series, judging by the large notch and the flat edges.
