Every year Samsung manages to score with the devices in the Galaxy A series. This year’s smartphone in that segment is the Samsung Galaxy A53. The recently released device has everything you need. First of all, four years of Android updates and five years of security updates, which is very neat. We also see a 6.5-inch AMOLED screen, quad camera with 64MP main lens and a hefty 5000 mAh battery. Good to know; the 25W charger is not included, but you can purchase it separately. We already came across it (inexpensive), the original for 12 euros (including shipping).

The OnePlus Nord 2T has been available in the Netherlands since this month; a device with everything on board for a successful smartphone. Like every Android phone from OnePlus, the device appears with OxygenOS, so you can personalize various things. There is a 6.43-inch AMOLED screen with Full HD+ resolution. Thanks to the triple camera with 50MP and OIS, you can take beautiful photos, and we also see the fast MediaTek Dimensity 1300 chipset. OnePlus immediately supplies an 80W charger to quickly recharge the 4500 mAh battery, handy! The OnePlus Nord 2T will receive two Android updates and three years of security updates.

Poco X4 Pro

Poco is the former subsidiary brand of Xiaomi and has the Poco X4 Pro in the segment. The phone offers an extensive list of options for an interesting price. There is a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen, triple camera with 108 megapixel main lens and Android 12. You can also quickly charge the 5000 mAh battery with 67W. The MIUI skin is present, and it works differently than other devices. You must love that. In terms of update policy, it’s vague; reportedly three years of security updates and two Android updates.

Nokia X20

Nokia is also a party in the range of smartphones up to 400 euros. The manufacturer does that with the Nokia X20. It offers a 6.67-inch Full-HD+ display, a 64MP quad camera and a 4470 mAh battery. It is a pity that the competitors then offer fast charging, with the Nokia this remains at 18W. There is a Snapdragon 480 chipset, and that is less fast than the competitors. With the Nokia X20, which we also discussed in the Nokia X20 review, you are getting updates for three years. You also have a three-year warranty on the smartphone. The wide-angle lens of the camera does disappoint. Furthermore, the device has an excellent price-quality ratio.

OnePlus North CE 2

We already had the OnePlus Nord 2T, and for a few tens less you can purchase the OnePlus Nord CE 2. We have already had a visit to this smartphone at the editors, and discussed it in the OnePlus Nord CE 2 review. The device has a good camera during the day, 80W fast charging, a good battery life and comes with a complete package. There is a 6.43 inch AMOLED screen, the OxygenOS skin but still with Android 11. Android 12 will only be rolled out in the autumn, which is moderate. Android 13 is for sure; Android 14 not. You do get security updates for three years; that’s neat.

The OnePlus Nord CE 2 is for sale via OnePlus itself, Amazon, Mobiel, Belsimpel and Coolblue.

We could have included more devices in this overview of the best smartphone up to 400 euros. However, several have already fallen. The Moto G200, for example, because of its poor update policy. With our knowledge we have now been able to create a nice overview for you.

Which is the best?

If you compare all specifications and features, the Samsung Galaxy A53 wins with flying colors. It is a fast, comprehensive and solid smartphone; and no other manufacturer comes close to this incredibly good update policy. The camera is also praised, without having to pay the main price for a high-end smartphone. If you want something different, we would look at the OnePlus Nord 2T or the Poco X4 Pro.
