That’s why you should install the new iPhone update

Apple has again released a so-called quick update. The iPhone update to iOS 16.5.1 (c) is intended to close important security gaps. We explain why you should install the update.

It wasn’t until early May that Apple started using iOS 16.4.1 (a) to implement so-called security measures for the iPhone. The quick updates are recognizable by the small letters that appear in brackets after the iOS version.

Apple has now made another quick update available with iOS 16.5.1 (c). We’ll show you what this security measure is all about and explain why you should install the update.

iOS 16.5.1 (c): Apple releases new iPhone update

The new function for quick updates has been available from Apple since autumn 2022. However, the Rapid Security Response (RSR) updates have only been used on the iPhone since May.

With the new designation, Apple deviates from the usual iOS designations. Normally only numbers follow the version of the operating system. The use of letters, however, is new. For example, the group recently presented the new iOS 17 operating system at the WWDC developer conference in June 2023.

iPhone update: Apple corrects its own mistakes

Apple had already published the security measure iOS 16.5.1 (a) at the beginning of the week. This should close a security hole in the WebKit browser engine. However, the quick update contained a bug that caused problems in the browser display on the iPhone.

The buggy update was originally supposed to be followed by version (b), but this has now been skipped. The iPhone update iOS 16.5.1 (c) should now fix the error again.

This is how you can install iPhone update iOS 16.5.1 (c).

As the name Quick Update already suggests, the installation of iOS 16.5.1 (c) does not take long. The update only counts a few megabytes and is therefore installed on your iPhone in no time at all.

If you have Automatic Updates installed, you don’t have to do anything. Then iOS 16.5.1 (c) will install itself.

If this is not the case, open the settings on your iPhone. In the menu item “General” you will find the option “Software update”. The security measure is displayed here.

Due to the small size of the update, you can also install it without a power supply and with a low battery level. The security measures can also be removed again in the “Info” menu.
