That’s really what’s behind the “T” symbol
What does the “T” in the logo really mean? A question that Tesla fans keep asking themselves. The answer comes from Tesla boss Elon Musk personally. He doesn’t seem to have thought it through to the end.
Elon Musk confirms fan theory: That’s what the Tesla logo stands for
The logo on all cars from electric pioneer Tesla shows a stylized “T” – it’s clear what that stands for. After all, it’s no coincidence that Volkswagen has a “V” and a “W” on its vehicles. It is of course the first letter of the brand name, all questions answered – or notas in the case of Tesla.
Because there is more to the American logo than meets the eye. This was also confirmed by Tesla boss Elon Musk, as usual via Twitter:
There it says: “Similar to SpaceX, the T is like the cross-section of an electric motorjust like the X resembles the trajectory of a rocket.” Musk thus confirms a theory that had been discussed in the Tesla fan community years earlier.
Accordingly, the structure resembling a “T” should actually represent part of the cross section of an electric drive: So the logo actually shows rotor and stator – a moving and a non-moving component – of the drive. The double crossbar of the “T” could also be explained in this way, which fans suspect symbolizes the gap between the two components.
Does Elon Musk still know his own e-cars?
Apparently Musk and the responsible department at Tesla didn’t look very closely: A user of the question portal quora points out that the “T” in Tesla’s logo more closely resembles part of the cross-section of a DC motor. Stupid, because Tesla itself does not install exactly those. However, whether the representation is ultimately accurate depends on the actual structure of a Tesla motor. You have to admit that Tesla knows their own cars well there.

Incidentally, brand logos that are pregnant with meaning are not uncommon: As Musk himself has confirmed, the “X” in the name of his space company SpaceX also has a special meaning. Of the curved letter is intended to represent the trajectory of a rocket. And there’s a deeper meaning behind the cryptic, “B”-like character in the Bluetooth logo, too.
