On Wednesday 16 March we will go to the polls again for the municipal elections. In many municipalities you can also vote on Monday and Tuesday. Androidworld introduces you to voting guides to make a good choice later.

Voting Pointers 2022

Last year, the Netherlands voted on March 17 in the elections to the House of Representatives. This time it is the turn of the municipalities. As you are used to, there are always voting pointers that present your statements. Your answers are compared with those of the political parties in your municipality. This way you will find out which local party suits you best. This is our overview of voting guides.

My voice

DPG Media’s MyStem electoral guide has been produced for 250 municipalities. First enter your zip code and then you will see relevant statements. In some cases, smaller local parties are not included in the results, but the website clearly states this as well.

In total there are 25 statements that have been tested in advance with 2,000 respondents, which are a reflection of the Dutch population. You can often also find a word of explanation from the various parties, which helps to take a good position afterwards.

Young People’s Choice Guide

It is sometimes difficult to get young people interested in politics. Turnout in municipal elections is therefore traditionally very low. Many young people also wonder whether it makes sense for them to vote at all. Are those local politicians really concerned with the themes that are important to young people?

The Jonge Kieswijzer does not tell you which party to vote for, but it advises young people whether it makes sense to vote or not. Young people are shown 20 statements that they must answer with ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. Then you get the answer to the question whether voting is a good idea. The Youth Electoral Guide also refers you to the necessary information about the parties in your municipality.

ProDemos VoiceWise

55 municipalities are represented in ProDemos’ StemWijzer. The full list of municipalities can be found on the website. For each of these municipalities, a series of propositions have been tailor-made, depending on what is going on in each municipality. This way you will see a maximum of 30 statements.

In order to make the formulation objective and clear, ProDemos has, in its own words, enlisted the help of linguists. The 55 municipalities that participate in ProDemos have commissioned a voting guide. ProDemos’ StemWijzer has been in existence since 1989. The website also offers even more political information through podcasts and an election newspaper.

Where is my polling station?

Now that you are fully informed about the party that will receive your vote, the only questions left are: where and when can I vote? The website Waarismijnstemlokaal.nl gives you the answer. It is an initiative of the Ministry of the Interior.

You enter your municipality on this website and you will then see all available polling stations. You can also find out on which days the room is open and what the opening times are. In addition, there is also information regarding the accessibility of each polling station. For more specific questions about municipal elections, you can also visit the central government’s website Elkestemtelt.nl.
