That’s how I got the costs back – but there’s a catch
Now it got me too and Amazon deducted the higher annual amount for the Prime service from my account. It hurts, but there’s a way out and I’ve already recovered the costs a long time ago. Sounds good, but my “trick” also has a huge catch – not everyone can copy me anymore.

A few months ago, the prices for Amazon Prime were increased sharply. If the free shipping, Amazon Prime Video and other useful features used to cost 69 euros a year, I have to, too now 89.90 euros pay – over 20 euros more. It’s unfortunate, especially when Amazon Prime Music was recently demoted from the streaming service to pure Internet radio – all very annoying.

However, what I only really realized now is that I have long since paid back the annual costs. The realization came to me when I reviewed my current state Amazon Prime credit card bonus points looked at. In total, I collected 8,994 points in 2022, which corresponds to a value of 89.94 euros. Money that I can easily offset when shopping on Amazon. I like to use it from time to time.
If you don’t know: If I make a purchase from Amazon with my Amazon credit card, I’ll give it to you right away 3 percent back in the form of points. For all other dealers, it’s still 0.5 percent – that’s coming together. I now pay for almost everything with my card whenever possible, but the Sparkasse card is only pulled out if credit card payments are not possible and I have to use the Girocard system.

Well, got a taste? Unfortunately I have to disappoint you. If you don’t already have an Amazon credit card, you can unfortunately no longer imitate my “trick”. The credit card will be not issued for a long time. Background: Amazon and the bank actually behind it (LBB) are going their separate ways, actually it should be over by the end of 2022. However, there is still no official successor plan. I already warned about this unclear situation in February.

In the meantime, Amazon itself has written and updated its own website: “It is not possible to apply for the Amazon.de VISA card until further notice. Should this change, we will inform you about it here. Since we currently have no further information, we ask you to refrain from further inquiries by telephone or e-mail in the meantime. Thank you for your understanding and patience. Existing customers can continue to use their Amazon.de VISA card as usual.”
After all, customers like me should be able to continue using the card for the time being. Only for me it will be over in mid-2023, at least my card is still valid until then. But what comes then? This Amazon still has no answer. It would be nice if this time would change soon. I would hate to lose this Prime advantage at the end.
