CD Projekt Red postpones next-gen updates for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Only a few weeks ago it was said that the studio would fulfill its plan. Now it was pulling the brakes: the next-gen versions of the hit games won’t appear until much later.

The fears have come true: the developer studio behind the scandalous role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077 does not manage the roadmap. This is particularly annoying for owners of an XBox Series S and X (test) or Playstation 5: They have been waiting for a playable Cyberpunk version on their platform for 10 months. Fans of The Witcher 3 – Wild Hunt will have to wait even longer.

Mixed feelings among gamers

Now – as already indicated – the reputation of CD Projekt Red (CDPR) is on a knife edge. On the one hand, the studio has so far delivered little of what was promised. Updates are still described as buggy, one of the announced free DLC is still missing and the date for the next-gen consoles has been canceled. In addition, the irregularities now also affect the cash cow The Witcher.

Cyberpunk 2077 comes out in winter, Wild Hunt in spring 2022

Nevertheless, the scene is not freaking out: in December 2020, you noticed what work the Polish smithy delivers when it comes under pressure. Cyberpunk 2077 was so unfinished that Sony was forced to kick it out of the store. Then CD Projekt Red tried to reassure investors, partners and customers. The damage was enormous. Now the studio wants to get out of the way from the start. Based on the team’s recommendations, the decision was made to deliver the update for Cyberpunk 2077 in the first quarter of 2022. This should follow in the second quarter for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

“Sorry, but we want to get it right”

The announcement CDPR launched on Twitter includes an apology for the delay. It ends with the postscript: “But we want to do it right”. Some customer reactions also go in this direction: “You should take all the time you need,” writes one. Other gamers are wondering how long CDPR will actually need. The game was finally announced for the end of 2022, almost a year ago. “It looks like it’s going to take you forever,” wrote a: e Twitter user: in under the announcement.
