“My oldest is a piece of cake. As a toddler, Esmee climbed all over the house, just as hard to thunder. I was no longer surprised by a bruise more or less: a child is a child and trial and error is part of playing. But the clinic doctor thought otherwise. Coincidentally, the day before the check-up, Esmee had fallen ugly in the playground and was covered with red welts and bruises.
Busy
Unsurprisingly, I put Esmee in her diaper on the treatment table. The doctor looked at me suspiciously. How did my daughter get so bruised? Had I rattled her, hit her? It made me laugh for a moment, but the doctor was serious. According to her, it was normal for a girl to have so many bruises and they couldn’t come from playing or punching. I got angry and really had to talk like Brugman to explain that I just had a busy kid.

Enterprising child
Promptly Esmee fell six months later, just when we had another appointment, with her tooth through the lip. Fearing another sermon, I called off the consultation with an excuse. We are now a few years later and I have a second one. Again an enterprising child and an unlucky bird. From the moment he could crawl he was covered in bruises. Fortunately, we now have another clinic and they are empathetic and understanding. Under the guise ‘a forewarned person counts for two’, I also informed them in advance that our doerak is not being mistreated, but is only very clumsy. ”
