Tesla shows off its human-like robot Optimus

Elon Musk has been dreaming of seeing his own robot become a reality for years and voila: this is robot Optimus. Tesla has officially unveiled the device. Not only that: Optimus has paraded around the stage.

Optimus

Optimus looks a lot like a human being: he has about the same build and walks around on two legs just like us. Doesn’t sound very special, but a lot of scientific work goes into balancing a robot that actually takes steps and doesn’t just move on wheels. It is certainly not a Tesla in that regard, but it does use much the same technology as Elon Musk’s average car: it uses sensors like on the cars and is also on the same artificial intelligence software.

If you are not that impressed with this first demo, Elon Musk has something in store for you. He said the prototype can do much more than has been shown, but that the debut was still a first for the robot itself: it ran wireless for the first time (with a 2.3 kWh battery for power). Although it is now mainly about a prototype, that is certainly not what Musk intends. He even says that unlike other impressive human-like robots, the Optimus is really made for mass production. Are you also thinking about iRobot? Never mind, and congratulations: you are human. Still…

Robot from Tesla

All jokes aside: it is certainly impressive to see such a robot walking, knowing that it can of course do much more. He can help people in and around the house anyway, but maybe also make people with loneliness problems feel a little less sad. It is not yet entirely clear what the purpose of the robot is. In any case, videos have been shown of the robot picking up packages, so it can probably help you clean up.

Do you want your own Optimus at home? Start saving: the robot costs around 20,000 dollars. Production is due to start next year, but we are still waiting for the production of no less than three different Tesla cars, so don’t pin Musk on that.

Would you like to have such a robot at home? What would you use it for? Leave it now in the comments to this article.
