Telekom draws these conclusions
Deutsche Telekom cannot continue as before. The additional option StreamOn for mobile phone tariffs is off the table. But what comes next, is there a successor? In addition, the head of Germany at Telekom has now given an initial outlook.
Telekom without StreamOn: This is how it should continue in the future
The Federal Network Agency’s decision made waves: StreamOn from Telekom and Vodafone’s gigapasses violate EU law and must therefore be abolished. Both Telekom and Vodafone have already announced that the tariff options will be discontinued in accordance with the decision.
But what’s next? Closing for new customers is as of July 1st, so not much time left to come up with alternatives. Apparently, Telekom already has a plan in placeas Germany boss Srini Gopalan recently announced.
“We have a clear plan, but it’s still a bit confidential. I ask for understanding. All benefits of StreamOn or more data volume will be included in the tariffs. We’ll be announcing that in the next few days,” Gopalan said during a recent Q1 2022 conference call. Tel tariff).
Soon there will be certainty for Telekom customers
The announcement is still pretty vague. But one thing is already clear: Telekom wants to despite the ban not allow StreamOn customers to be made worse off as previously. All advantages should be taken with you or additional data volume, we can count on that, although it is still unclear exactly how much it will be.
This obviously fulfills the hopes of the Federal Network Agency. One hoped for the end of the so-called zero-tariff options in general better conditions for mobile phone tariffs. It should now become clearer what that will look like.
Watch streaming services on the go without data volume, that’s over now. So better choose carefully:
o2 has already shown a possibility how things could go on. With the o2 Grow tariff, the data volume for customers is increased by 10 GB year after year at no additional cost. Vodafone also presented new tariff structures shortly after the ban. But they should have been in the pipeline anyway and are now coming in handy.
