17-year-old boy falls 40 meters

Smit Metha, a 17-year-old boy, took a walk with two friends on a rainy day in India. He walked alone for a bit, but at that moment slipped on the muddy path. As a result, he fell 40(!) meters.

Metha took quite a whack and broke both his ankles in the process. When he wanted to call for help, he discovered that his phone was still in the backpack of one of his friends.

Request help via Apple Watch

Metha soon saw that his Apple Watch Series 7 had survived the fall, alerting his friends and family. The emergency number was also informed in this way, so that the emergency services found Metha two hours later.

It’s fortunate that Metha had the Cellular version of the Apple Watch, which allowed him to call his family without his phone nearby. It later turned out that Metha’s crash was already the seventh incident of the day on the route he was running.

Tim Cook responds to the fall incident

Metha temporarily ended up in a wheelchair and underwent a long rehabilitation. During rehabilitation, he decided to send an email to Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. In the email, he explained how the Apple Watch saved his life, because otherwise he wouldn’t have been able to ask anyone for help.

The Apple CEO responded quickly to the email: he wished Metha a good rehabilitation and thanked him for sharing his story. This is not the first story where an Apple Watch saves someone’s life, the Apple Watch has already discovered a heart condition that could have ended fatally.
