Team of Google Maps and Waze merges: what will change?

According to the latest reports, things will change at Google Maps and Waze. The posts are about merging the Google Maps and Waze teams. Should Waze now fear for its future, or is that not the case?

Waze and Google Maps

Waze is a very popular app. The navigation app was founded in 2006 and in 2013 the navigation app was acquired by Google. The company already had Google Maps at the time. However, Waze has never been forgotten. The teams of the two apps each worked on their own service, but that is about to change. The team of developers from both Google Maps and Waze is now being merged. According to reports, Waze has more than 500 employees. They will be housed in the Google Geo department, for which Earth and Street View are being developed in addition to Google Maps.

Reportedly, no layoffs are planned, although the CEO of Waze will have a different position due to the merger. Nothing will change for Waze users. Google has no plans to delete the app, because Waze will continue to exist. Existing services and features in Waze will also be supported. The aim is that the applications are better coordinated and that in this way they stay ahead of the competition. In 2020, it was revealed that Waze has 130 million monthly users.
