TCL has shown a smartphone with a flexible and at the same time scrollable display

Folding smartphones with flexible displays have been a reality for more than two years. The pioneer in this segment is Samsung, which recently introduced the third generation of these devices. Some competitors have even presented smartphones with scrollable displays. Company TCL now according to the portal GSMArena has shown a smartphone that combines both technologies.

The concept combines up to three devices

The Chinese company TCL, which combines these technologies, presented this spring. But now it shows the real look of this interesting smartphone, TCL Fold’n Roll allows you to change the diagonal of the display up to three sizes in total. When closed, the display should have a standard 6.87-inch diagonal.

Thanks to the rolling mechanism, the owner can then stretch it to 8.85 inches. And if that’s not enough, he can still flip the other part of the screen and have a 10-inch tablet from his smartphone. TCL Fold’n Roll should combine up to three different devices – a classic smartphone for communication, a small tablet for consumption and a large tablet for work.

Flexible displays are not unknown to TCL

TCL has been interested in advanced display technologies for a long time. It owns CSOT, a Chinese display manufacturer that covers everything from small smartphone screens to large TV screens in its portfolio. The manufacturer started producing flexible OLED panels at the end of 2019.

TCL also turned to its partners to try to find a way to make the display TCL Fold’n Roll more durable (the outer part of the display makes it more vulnerable). The prototype currently uses plastic. It is not yet known when this prototype will become a commercial product. But we could see TCL Fold ‘n Roll at least at one of the upcoming conferences.
