T-Mobile, KPN and Vodafone remove valuable smartphones from shops
After a series of robberies in Amsterdam, the three major providers have decided to remove their (valuable) phones from the stores in all Dutch stores. Several other measures have already been taken in the past.
Valuable smartphones from stores
In recent weeks, a relatively large number of telecom shops in Amsterdam and the surrounding area have been robbed. As a result, the various providers (T-Mobile, KPN and VodafoneZiggo) have taken measures to reduce the chance of a robbery. It was decided to remove valuable smartphones from stores in areas with an increased risk of robbery. In the armed robberies, employees were forced to hand over smartphones. In addition, several other visible and invisible measures were taken to keep stores safe.
The stores are now taking the next step. Due to the persistent threat, valuable smartphones are now being removed from the shops of T-Mobile, KPN and VodafoneZiggo throughout the Netherlands. The providers say the following about this;
The telecom companies are very concerned about the situation that has arisen and are doing everything they can to prevent robberies. This involves close cooperation with the police and government agencies. In view of the continuing threat and the shift of the robbery risk to other telephone shops, KPN, VodafoneZiggo and T-Mobile have decided to remove the valuable smartphones from stock everywhere.
Customers can still come to the stores to try a demo version of a smartphone. Valuable smartphones, however, are not sold in the store, but are delivered to the buyer’s home. Stealing smartphones does not pay off. Phones can be traced and blocked remotely.
