SunSaluter follows the sun and purifies water at the same time

Eden Full came up with the SunSaluter: a low-tech way that allows you to replace expensive electronics worth hundreds of euros for a few tens.

Solar panels are usually not at the optimal angle

Solar panels are no longer as expensive as a few years ago, but you soon have to charge more than € 1 per watt of power. Then you also have to provide an inverter and a battery. All the more reason to use your solar panel as efficiently as possible. The problem is that the sun moves across the sky during the day.

You have the highest yield of solar energy when a solar panel is placed directly on the sun. The more inclined the solar panel is to the sun’s rays, the more light it reflects and the smaller the effective area that catches the sun. Enter the SunSaluter.

SunSaluter does it with gravity

You can solve this problem with tracking electronics and a stepper motor, but that can easily cost hundreds of euros. And the intention was precisely to extract as much energy as possible from the solar panel for as little money as possible. The SunSaluter solves this problem and is therefore a real solution for people in developing countries. Or Dutch people who like to live off-grid.

SunSaluter also purifies water

A second advantage of this smart device is that while it follows the sun, it also purifies water. As a bottle of dirty water passes through the cleaning filter, its weight decreases, causing the solar panel to rotate. With the SunSaluter this has been precisely thought out in such a way that the solar panel follows the sun exactly. In total, a SunSaluter can purify 4 l of water per day.

DIY

Perhaps the most attractive thing about the SunSaluter is that you can build this device yourself. Do you have a solar panel plus inverter, empty bottles, a hose, a water filter, wood and mounting material? Then you can basically build your own low budget tracking system in a few hours. We know a number of people in Ukraine, and in many other countries, who would be very happy about this. And do you live in a tiny house or do you have a summer house? Then it is of course also a nice project.
