Such a fingerprint reader has not been here before

From time to time it seeps into the light of the world technological patent, for which it is much to be considered whether its author is thinking of real use, or just safe storage in a drawer and protection from competition. Many extravagant ideas can automatically be considered the second option. But sometimes there are bold drawings, in which one says “maybe they could produce this”. Is this also the case? At the beginning of June, Xiaomi’s patent was confirmed side fingerprint reader located below the display.

As you may have guessed correctly, the Chinese company is toying with the idea that in some cases combined two previous practices for working with this sensor. It is usually found either under the layer of the screen or on the fixed frame of the mobile phone. However, the aforementioned patent from Xiaomi reveals the idea that the side fingerprint reader would not necessarily be on the “passive” edge of the device, but possibly also below the display curved over the edge. It could easily be a curved LCD IPS panel.
