Steven Spielberg is going to make movies for Netflix!
Very cool, there’s Steven Spielberg quality coming to the Netflix Original movies.
The American streaming service Netflix makes a lot of its own films and series. But you can argue about the quality. There are really cool toppers, such as Army of the Dead, but also enough pulp such as Underground 6. Well-known actors and actresses sometimes don’t help with that. A legendary director can contribute to a successful formula. It’s all the more cool that Steven Spielberg is going to interfere with Netflix movies.
Especially in the early days of Netflix, it was always questionable whether Hollywood directors saw the potential to make something for Netflix. Many did not see it as a competitor for cinema releases. Christopher Nolan, for example, is a fierce opponent of streaming services in that area. But now comes the news that living legend Steven Spielberg will be making Netflix movies.
This is Amblin, the production company of Steven Spielberg. Amblin has signed a deal with Netflix to make several films for the American streaming service on an annual basis. According to Variety, they must deliver at least two films a year to Netflix. Incidentally, it is not an exclusive deal. Amblin also makes films for Universal. (via Variety)
