Sponsored – On a flying holiday with your children? With these clothes you will pass through the security check smoothly
We are going out en masse again this May holiday by plane, and rightly so: how nice is it to relax with your family for one or two weeks? Ha, although it can still be quite stressful at Schiphol itself – from parking, the security check to finding the right gate. Fortunately, we have a few handy tips to go through the security process as smoothly as possible in any case – from hand luggage to your clothing outfit. So that you are on the plane as soon as possible and the journey can begin. Saves you time and a lot of hassle again – not bad, right?
1: Start at home
And especially with the smart packing of your hand luggage. There is nothing more annoying than rushing through your bag when you are already at security because you are not sure whether that liquid is not in a bottle larger than 100 ml – while sweat is gushing from your forehead. Trust us, it really happened. Therefore, check in advance what you are bringing. Only take the essentials with you. The lighter your hand luggage, the easier the security process at Schiphol. Also applies to the type of bag – a cotton bag or handbag ‘checks’ more easily than a clumsier trolley. There are exceptions for families with small children. For example, you can take baby food with you (if your child is younger than one and a half) and you can take a filled plastic water bottle with you. There are also exceptions for diet food and medicines. You can find out exactly what those exceptions are here.
2: The right dress code
You probably remember it from a previous time: the security scanner. You only have to stand in that big machine for three seconds, but those seconds can turn into minutes when you’re wearing all kinds of complicated clothing. Think of a heavy, thick coat, high boots with studs and laces or a belt with a large buckle – you all have to take them off and take them off. Do you have a child with a penchant for bracelets, necklaces and other jewelry items? That’s another advantage: you don’t have to take it off, just like your watch. Thin, comfortable clothing is key here, as are low sneakers (so you can keep them on, but you can also easily kick them off on the plane) and stretch pants – which are much easier on the plane anyway than tight jeans. Want to know exactly which dress rules there are? This handy overview will help you.
3: Prepare in line
Are you waiting in line? Great opportunity to collect all the stuff lying around. Empty your own pockets and those of your children and put boarding passes and passports in your bag – then you can hand everything in one package at security. Oh, and where you used to have to put phones and tablets loose in a container, they can now also stay in your bag – as well as liquids in a transparent bag and your water bottle. Laptop with you? You can also keep it in the laptop bag. Yes, it can be that easy.
4: Just scan
Ha, it’s your turn and believe us: now that good preparation will pay off. So grab a container, put your coats in it and other stuff on top. Handy if you try to put all your stuff in one container as much as possible, because it saves a lot of hassle. And then you can go into the scanning device one by one. And you can almost touch that holiday destination, despite the fact that there is still a flight in between. In short: it will be fun.
