A new announcement from Sony is scheduled for September 1, the company reports on social media. The Japanese are coming with a new compact smartphone, presumably the Sony Xperia 5 IV. What can we expect from this?

Sony Xperia 1 IV on September 1st?

Next week, Sony will hold a press conference for a new smartphone. The video that the Japanese brand has already shared uses the slogans ‘Be creative’ and ‘Go compact’. The suspicion is that Sony will present a new compact smartphone. We already saw the Xperia 1 IV and Xperia 10 IV in May, but the Xperia 5 series was not followed on that day. The signals now seem to be green for the release of the Sony Xperia 5 IV. The Xperia 5 series is known for its high-end specifications in a smaller housing.

The 2018 Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact

It will be interesting to see how big the Xperia 5 IV will actually be. Sony released several compact smartphones with good specifications years ago. Nowadays, however, everything just has to be bigger and bigger about smartphones, and there are no compact smartphones to be found anywhere in the high-end segment. That partly came to an end with the Asus ZenFone 9 that was recently announced.

Rumors have already surfaced about the new device. The new Xperia 5 IV would, according to the FCC, the dimensions 156.0 x 67.0 millimeters. For comparison; In 2018, the Xperia XZ2 Compact was released with a size of 135.0 x 65.0 millimeters. The screen size of the OLED display on the Xperia 5 IV would come out at 6.0 inches and we expect a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. There would also be support for wireless charging. The compact as compact from a few years ago is therefore no longer, but it should in any case become a more handy device.

As with the other two models in the Xperia IV line, a triple camera with three 12-megapixel sensors is expected. On September 1, we will hear all the details about the new device.
