Sony WF-1000XM4 bluetooth earphones leaked via promotional video
Sony’s WF series, which has been at the top of the ANC spectrum since the introduction of the WF-1000XM3, last received a major upgrade in 2019. Rumors about the WF-1000XM4 have been doing the rounds for quite some time now, but they were just rumours. A video promoting the ANC bluetooth earphones confirms this time that a launch is imminent.
Sony WF-1000XM4
Sony Netherlands seems to have made a mistake in the publication date of the promotional video of the WF-1000XM4, according to messages on Reddit. A video that has since been removed from YouTube – showing the ears in full regalia – can currently be viewed via Reddit. The video starts with an in-depth explanation of the ANC functionality on the WF-1000XM4. Sony has equipped both earphones with microphones to pick up ambient noise and combines the microphones with its own V1 chipset to process the ambient sounds.
Speak to chat feature
Sony rests the ears, as appears from the Dutch video, and is also equipped with ‘beamforming’ technology, so that you can be heard better during telephone conversations. In addition, the WF-1000XM4s are equipped with wind noise reduction, so that the listener is not bothered by wind noise during the telephone conversation. For offline conversations, Sony has further equipped the earphones with an ambient sound and speak to chat function; the latter function recognizes as soon as you start talking and then automatically switches to ambient sound mode to be able to hear someone else.
The video further reveals that the Song WF-1000XM4 earphones include new audio drivers, are High-Res Audio certified, support Sony’s LDAC streaming, work with the DSEE Extreme protocol and offer 360 Reality Audio. As we are used to from the WF series, you can control the earphones from the Sony Headphones Connect app. Similar to the WF-1000XM3, Sony has also equipped the app with location-based profiles for, for example, the ANC modes.
Battery life up to 36 hours
The promotional video of Sony’s noise-canceling earphones further promotes battery life, which the video says cuts out at up to 36 hours. That includes the charges in the case that comes with these earbuds. According to Sony, one charge of the earphones themselves lasts up to eight hours with the ANC functionality turned on. Without ANC, the battery life increases to a maximum of 12 hours. According to Sony, the charging case offers an additional 16 hours (with ANC) or 24 hours (without ANC) of battery life. Charging the earphones can be done wirelessly (Qi), or wired via the USB-C port on the charging case.
Details about the prices or availability of these earphones are not present in the video. However, details have been released about the price via WinFuture. In Europe, Sony wants to give the earphones a suggested retail price of 279.90 euros. Given the video came out this weekend, a launch doesn’t seem long in the offing. Whether they will be available immediately after that may depend on any chip shortages.
The new design of the earphones already seems to be the beginning of a new era for ANC earphones from Sony. What do you think of the design of the wireless earphones? Let us know in the comments at the bottom of the article.
