Solve a new village treat in Zelda TotK

In Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you will likely come across the episode “A New Village Treat” in Hateno Village. This quest is part of the mayoral election and is quite tricky. In this guide we explain where you can find the village goodies.

Start “A New Village Treat”.

This task is the counterpart to “Sagono or Rietnar?”, so the condition is the same. You must talk to Sagono at her boutique in Hateno to trigger the mayoral election. Then you will find Rietnar in his house, which is west of the inn. Talk to him there to get his quest.

Rietnar wants to win the mayoral election with a treat forgotten in the village, that his grandfather created with another villager. However, Rietnar only remembers the taste and no longer knows who the villager was and what exactly the two of them prepared.

Requirement to find the village treat

To get the Village Treat, you have to go east of Hateno to the Hateno farm. Here Koyin is standing on the jetty and looking into the sumac pond. A message in a bottle is floating in the pond. This is a letter from Koyin’s grandfather. You will get a new quest and you have to get the letter from the pond.

Complete A Letter for Koyin

There are many ways to get the letter. You could build a raft or freeze the water with the appropriate items and get the bottle. But the easiest way is to cut down two trees and connect the tree trunks. You then lead the long tree trunk from the bank to the bottle and connect the bottle to it. Then you grab the tree trunk again and then pull it together with the message in a bottle to the bank. Show the letter to Koyin to complete the quest.

Get and turn in Village Treats

As it turns out, Koyin’s grandfather was the villager who made the Hateno cheese with Rietnar’s grandfather. Inside the message in a bottle is the recipe for the cheese that Koyin will make for you. In their new cheese shop at the farm you can buy the Hateno cheese for 20 Rupees. You get the first cheese for free as a reward.

Give the Rietnar Cheese to complete A New Village Treat. You will receive this from Rietnar 100 Rupees. Incidentally, you can now also buy Hateno cheese in the Hateno general store.
