Solo: A Star Wars Story 2 is not planned, director Ron Howard announces
Fans who have been waiting for a sequel to Solo: A Star Wars Story might wait a while. Ron Howard, the director of the first film of 2018, announces that such a project is not in the cards.
“The only discussion I’m aware of about a Solo sequel is from fans at this point”said Ron Howard during an interview with NME. “I don’t think it’s a Lucasfilm priority, from what I understand”. He adds : “But there are great characters that have been cast and the people at Lucasfilm love the fans and really listen to them, so I would never ever say no. But I’m not aware of any concrete plans to extend the story or deal with this particular group of characters.”
Solo: A Star Wars Story premiered in 2018 and was (relatively) a box office failure. The film only made $392 million, which barely allowed Disney to make a profit from it. In comparison, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) exceeded $1 billion. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015) did even better, surpassing the $2 billion mark. As for Star Wars: The Last Jedireleased a year earlier Solo: A Star Wars Storythe box office was $1.33 billion.
The Star Wars franchise has rebounded in recent years thanks to its TV offerings on Disney+, including the series The Mandalorianmuch loved by fans, and the series Andor, critically acclaimed. It was a little more complicated for Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Boba Fett Bookthe series being generally considered disappointing by the public.
