Snapchat is said not to have paid Spotlight creators since April
With Snapchat’s Spotlight feature, creators can make money from the short video clips. However, the payout now seems to be stalling.
The fact that the numerous social networks are diligently “inspired” by each other’s unique selling points is nothing new: Clubhouse clones are now almost everywhere – even LinkedIn is working on a version – and also the short video clips on which Snapchat once did Established success can be found in almost every network. With Spotlight, the most popular snaps can be shared and even monetized in a feed – but now there’s trouble.

Creators accuse Snap of delaying payments
How Social Media Today reported criticizing a group of people over Spotlight Earning money that Snap has recently been taking a lot of time with the payout. Specifically, no more funds should have flowed since April 11, 2021. For some of the users this is a real problem; their spotlights are so successful that they make a living from them.
In fact, Snap – the parent company behind Snapchat and Spotlight – changed the payout modalities in June. Until then, one million US dollars was paid out daily for the most successful spotlights; that was changed to the rather unspecific specification of “Millions a month“. Not good news for the total of 5,400 creators who are said to have earned more than $ 130 million in total through Spotlight so far.
“Snapchat leaves us completely in the dark about whether our content has made any money and, if so, how much,” one affected person told Social Media Today. On the part of Snaps it is said that there were indeed difficulties in the payment process at times, but creators are still being paid for their content.
Snapchat is driving ecommerce efforts forward
At the same time, Snapchat also wants to establish itself as an e-commerce player – after all, attractive sources of income are hidden here. To this end, for example, the company bought the fashion recommendation app Screenshop in April of this year. Described as “Shazam for Clothing,” the tool can use a photo to suggest similar clothing items that are available in online stores.
The company is also active in the field of augmented reality – Spectacles recently introduced glasses suitable for everyday use, which can be used to display digital content in the user’s field of vision. The gadget is currently not available in stores, but only for users selected by Snap: inside.
