However, the messenger always had to contend with a major disadvantage that is not at all known from other messengers such as WhatsApp, Telegram and Co. Now, years later, this disadvantage has finally been resolved. It’s about changing your phone number.

Signal allows you to change your phone number

It’s hard to believe, but anyone who uses the signal messenger and changes their phone number loses all content. You simply cannot transfer chats and the like if you change your cell phone number. Messengers like WhatsApp have been able to do this for a number of years. Since the phone number is used for identification and there are no accounts with user names and passwords in the true sense of the word, this innovation is very pleasing for all Signal users. From now on you can change their phone number without losing everything.

But there is also a small caveat here. One must continue to have access to their smartphone with the old number, where you can send and receive messages. The new SIM card with the new number must also be inserted into the old smartphone. If you lose your smartphone or can no longer send or receive messages from the old number, you no longer have a chance to change the number and keep all messages.

So far only the Instructions available in English (look at signal). If you switch to the German FAQ, it still says that you cannot change the phone number.
