Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun – Aiko’s Choice
Where is the continuation of the excellent Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun strategy, you ask? Probably in the offing, when the creators of this excellent game from the Mimimi studio worked for years on similarly tuned Desperados 3. And surprisingly also on a stand-alone Shadow Tactics extension called Aiko’s Choice.
Aiko’s Choice will be the first expansion of Shadow Tactics, a game released more than four years ago. As the name suggests, the main role will be played by the murderous spy Aiko from the original game, who outwits her victims in disguise as a geisha.
When a mysterious figure associated with her past appears in her life, it’s time to act. A team of unique heroes gets together and sets out on dangerous missions under your command. There will be a total of six – three main major and three secondary minor.
Although Aiko’s Choice will be a standalone extension of Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, the creators recommend playing at least the first few missions of the base game. So there will probably be no tutorial to introduce new players to the mechanisms of the game.
Otherwise, it looks like we should expect more of the same. The creators do not mention any revolutionary news, which should not be to the detriment. Shadow Tactics was a phenomenal game in which more of the same thing doesn’t matter at all, on the contrary, it is desirable.
However, developers have very bad news for consoles. Aiko’s Choice only comes out on computers. It is said that due to technical difficulties with the development of the game on all platforms, the solution of which would take developers too much time.
The creators mentioned among the reasons that they are still a studio developing one project at a time, which gives us a little hope that a full-fledged sequel to Shadow Tactics would have been created a long time ago. But since the developers didn’t want to spend too much time on extensions, they’re definitely up to it.
The stand-alone expansion of Aiko’s Choice should be released later this year.
