Seriously ill children are visited by very special animals

In Germany, seriously ill children were visited by very special animals. A number of owls came to visit. Just like dogs, they appear to have a calming effect on people. “It tickled a little bit. And it was very soft,” says one of the children.
Because owls can have a calming effect on people, a number of falconers bring their owls to a children’s hospital in Germany. “Animals touch people on a completely different level than people do to each other. Owls are incredibly calming,” says one of them. “They make sure that people are grounded again”.

“You can pet my birds, hug them and give them kisses,” says yet another falconer. And the children respond enthusiastically to that. The owls are petted and cuddled. It is also nice for the parents to see how their children enjoy this. “He really likes the contact with the animals,” says a mother. Yet another mother says: “It is important to see that there is more than just their illness”.
