Scammers target verification on Twitter
Verification on Twitter will cost money in the future, plans new owner Elon Musk. However, the announcement immediately drew scammers into action, who are now sending phishing emails.
Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover has caused quite a stir in the past few days. Because the plans of the Tesla boss could bring some changes to the short message service.
This also applies to the previously free option of having your own account verified. In the future, the blue tick will only be available to users with a subscription to Twitter Blue.
But the news not only upset many users. She has also called scammers onto the scene, who are now trying to get their hands on users’ money with phishing emails.
Phishing emails target verification on Twitter
Among other things, reports on the phishing e-mails NBC-Journalist Kevin Collier and TechCrunch-Journalist Zack Whittaker. Both posted screenshots of the news on their Twitter account.
Bravo to some hacker for the timely phishing lure, which apparently slipped right by Outlook’s robust protections. Twittercontactcenter@gmail is a bit of a giveaway, though. Didn’t get me but I bet this gets somebody. pic.twitter.com/yPzmYY5kic

The messages come from the sender address twittercontactcenter@gmail.com. It states that verification after November 2 will cost $19.99 per month for some users.
Above all, users are affected for whom the network cannot “fully prove” that they are “famous or well-known people”.
Twitter’s ongoing verification chaos is now a cybersecurity problem. It looks like some people (including in our newsroom) are getting crude phishing emails trying to trick people into turning over their Twitter credentials. pic.twitter.com/Nig4nhoXWF

Also attempts at fraud via Twitter lists
But not only phishing e-mails are used to try to cheat with verification on Twitter. This is also attempted via Twitter lists, again mirror reported.
So be a mirror-Journalist in Germany has been added to a list called “Removal Notice” on Twitter. Here it was said that Twitter had “classified his account as inauthentic after careful examination”.
He could avoid “permanent removal” of his verification on Twitter by appealing through a website. The page is after mirrorHowever, the information has since been deleted.
