Samsung ZamStar is a music app for the TikTok generation

Samsung wants to bring musicians together in a modern way with a new social medium called ZamStar.

Technology makes it easier than ever to bring people together. There are plenty of negative implications that come with social media, but Samsung may have a counter to that. During CES 2022, the billion-dollar company will announce a special platform with accompanying smart guitar. And the whole thing is clearly aimed at the younger generation of future musicians.

Samsung ZamStar for social creativity

Samsung’s project aims to make it easier to share and create music with others. The foundation lies with ZamStar, a kind of social medium where musicians can add to each other’s music. This concept is similar to the TikTok ‘Duet’ feature where users can post a video response to an existing video.

ZamStar consists entirely of this concept and focuses specifically on musicians. According to Samsung, the platform is accessible to everyone from beginners to experts. Users can freely paste their interpretations of one song over another’s.

Special guitar

Simultaneously with ZamStar, Samsung is also announcing a dedicated guitar called ZamString. The guitar has LED lights under each ferret of each string to give beginners signals as to which notes to play.

This concept also existed in other guises. Think of the classic Guitar Hero games, the later Rocksmith and several other uses of an interactive guitar for beginners.

For the time being, Samsung has not yet announced when the social medium and the accompanying guitar will be released.
