‘Samsung will better streamline updates in Europe’: this is going to change

Samsung is said to be preparing to update devices in certain regions. These should be more aligned and that should result in faster updates. A distinction is still made between regions.

Samsung changes update schedule

Samsung seems to no longer distinguish between software versions that can differ per country with the new devices. Instead, Samsung would opt for one firmware version for all of Europe. In this way it should be possible to better streamline the rollout of updates. For example, an update that first appears in Poland may only appear in the Netherlands weeks later, or vice versa. With the new plans, it should therefore be immediately available throughout Europe.

Updates currently appear in the Netherlands with country code ‘PHN’. A difference can already be noticed if your device is purchased from a store that sells devices through gray imports. For example, it may just be that your device comes from Germany and is therefore ahead or behind with updates. That should be a thing of the past with new devices. Samsung uses the country code EUX for this. There will be no changes for devices with a special branding, such as devices purchased from T-Mobile or Vodafone. They keep their own ‘country code’.

It seems to be an advantage that updates are rolled out in Europe at the same time. However, in recent months, several devices with an EUX country code have been updated slightly later than other devices. For example, this was the case with Android 12 for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3, which has already been rolled out in some markets. However, there is a chance that this will change in 2022. It is possible that Samsung will be more careful with the rollout of updates. When updates are rolled out per country, they reach fewer devices and bugs can therefore be intercepted earlier. Another chance that is present is that Samsung wants to use its beta program more widely in this way. For example, with the beta of Android for the Galaxy S21, this was limited to a small number of countries.

The new EUX code would already be present in the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3. Furthermore, according to Galaxyclub, it will also be included in the Galaxy A13, the Galaxy A33, A53 and the new S22 series. Nothing would change for existing devices.
