Samsung merges its mobile and consumer electronics divisions
Samsung announcement changes within the company, including a merger of its mobile devices and consumer electronics divisions. This restructuring must “Strengthen the competitiveness of activities”, indicates the company.
A major change at Samsung
The new division will be headed by Han Jong-hee, promoted to vice president and co-general manager of Samsung Electronics. He will also retain his position as director of the televisions division. In addition, Kyung Kye-hyun, general manager of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, is named co-general manager of Samsung Electronics and will take the head of the semiconductors and electronic components division.
You should know that the mobile division is the one that brings the most to Samsung. In the third quarter of 2021 alone, this was the equivalent of € 21.43 billion. But another important sector is that of chips. It represented the equivalent of 20.02 billion euros. This is mainly due to increased demand during this pandemic period.
Samsung aims to become the number one chipmaker over the next decade and has injected hundreds of billions into this business. As recently as November, the group announced it was building a $ 17 billion semiconductor plant in Texas to make high-end and advanced chips for smartphones, 5G and artificial intelligence.
