Samsung has shown a prototype Galaxy Fold with a double fold
Company Samsung is currently undoubtedly the market leader in folding smartphones. The fact that she does not want to leave anything to chance is also confirmed by the concept of a folding smartphone with a double fold, which she showed at the IMID 2021 congress. AndroidAuthority.
Double bending eliminates the need for an external display
The South Korean giant currently has the third generation of folding smartphones on the market with flexible displays. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold3 5G and Galaxy Z Flip3 displays traditionally fold only once in the middle of the body. However, Samsung is already thinking about why not have up to two folds on your smartphone?
Samsung has even produced a functional prototype, which is currently on display at the IMID 2021 (International Meeting for Information Displays) Congress. You can watch what the device looks live in the following video.
Unfortunately, the video does not show how the device is composed. However, it is clear that this design is based on existing Galaxy Z devices, so one can imagine how it works. When folded, the left third of the display remains the external display, while the remaining two are hidden inside.
Unlike the Galaxy Z Fold3, the prototype does not need an external display for use in the folded state. The video also shows how multitasking One UI will work for this type of device. The user will be able to conveniently view three applications side by side.
What will be the name of the device and when will Samsung launch it?
Samsung calls this folding technology “multi-foldable” and refers to this particular product as Samsung Flex In & Out. Obviously, this is just an internal name, as such a complex name would not be very suitable for the commercial market.
It can be assumed that the real name would again refer to the Galaxy Z series. The question is also when Samsung will launch this type of device on the market? Because the prototype, according to the video, is far from the final product, unfortunately it is probably not possible to count on it for next year either.
