Samsung gives tips to prevent blurry photos on Galaxy S23

Samsung knows that the primary camera of the Galaxy S23 family has problems and is working on a solution. There are many complaints about blurring that occurs in close-ups, although it also happens in other photos where part is in focus, but everything around it is not. And then not intended.

Blurred photos

Samsung writes about the problem on its blog: “If you’ve tried out the camera on your S23 or S23+, you may have noticed that when you take a close-up photo, the area around the object looks a bit blurry. This is because the wide-angle camera on the back of the S23 and S23+ has a bright aperture, which helps when shooting in the dark. But this also means that the more noticeable selective focus can blur the background of your photos a bit.”

A clear explanation, which Samsung indicates that it wants to come up with a software update to improve it. However, this is still being worked on. So there is not so 1-2-3 a fix for it. There is something else: Samsung gives you tips on how to make sure that you are less affected by the problem:

  • Try to take the picture from a little further away when the object you are taking a picture of is about 30 centimeters away: then move back 20 centimeters.
  • Take a photo with the phone in your hand vertically: the background will appear blurred more quickly if you hold the device horizontally or diagonally.

Galaxy S23 Ultra in particular has the problem regularly, although we have not yet experienced it very consciously. That’s because the camera switches to the wide-angle camera when you take a close-up. Normally the Focus Enhancer is added, but in some modes that doesn’t happen and you get that blur in your image.

So yes, the advice is to take a lot of photos in ‘social media’ format, so upright. In addition, you have to take a little more distance from what you want to photograph, although that will feel a bit crazy in some cases.

Have you ever been bothered by this, that blur in the photos? We will certainly test it this weekend. Leave your experiences in the comments now.
