‘Samsung gives the Galaxy S22 the same price tag as the Galaxy S21’
From last August, there is already news about the new Galaxy S series from Samsung. For example, the design and a large part of the specifications have already been leaked, and the wallpapers are also available for download. Today news about the suggested retail price will be added. Will this price ensure a sales success?
Same trend, not the desired result
Sammobile reports that it has been told through sources that the Samsung Galaxy S22 would be priced the same as the Galaxy S21. Which equates to a suggested retail price of 849 euros. This would make the S22 the cheapest S phone from the S22 line. With this, the company keeps the trend that it has started since the S21 series. Since this series, the ‘regular S’ is the cheapest device of the S series, apart from the Fan Edition devices. The company also stays away from the real premium prices of around 1000(+) euros.
The strategy that the company applied to the S21 will therefore probably be continued. Samsung fitted a number of downgrades to push the price down. The device therefore had to take off a jacket compared to the Galaxy S20. For example, the QHD screen was exchanged for a Full-HD+ copy, the glass of the housing was replaced by plastic, the device got less working memory and the SD card slot was deleted. Instead, the device received a lower suggested retail price (849 euros compared to 999 euros). However, this did not yield the desired result. After six months, the S21 was sold about twenty percent less than the S20. And this device was also disappointing in terms of sales.
What will the S22 do?
In terms of specifications, the Galaxy S22 seems to bring many improvements over the S21. This would give the camera a major upgrade. Where the Galaxy S21 still received the same cameras as the Galaxy S20 (12 MP main camera, 12 MP Ultra-Wide and 64 MP ‘telephoto lens’), the S22 gets a completely new camera system. The camera module of the S22 will most likely consist of a 50 MP main camera, a 12 MP Ultra-Wide and an 8 MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. The latter is a significant improvement over the 64 MP camera, which offered only 1.1x optical zoom and which, due to the high pixel count, was mainly present for the 8K video function. This function can now be taken over by the 50 MP main camera. The expectation is that due to the 3x optical zoom, the zoom photos should look better and sharper.
A disadvantage that might stick to the S22 is the design. The Galaxy S22 seems to be very similar to the S21. And this often does not benefit the sales figures. Nevertheless, Samsung would like to sell fourteen million S22 devices. That would be slightly more than the S21. The S22 should be officially announced next February. We’re looking forward to it.
